PBS NewsHour’s Gwen Ifill features a partnership between congregations, Methodist Healthcare in Memphis, the Susan B. Komen foundation and the West Clinic. The goal: early detection for breast cancer among African-American women—and saved lives. Says Ifill:

According to research published this April in “The Journal of Cancer Epidemiology,” the rate of breast cancer deaths for black women nationally is 40 percent greater than that of white women, and the city with the worst racial disparity is Memphis.

The church is one of 530 congregations that’s part of the Congregational Health Network, or CHN. Similar to FaithHealthNC, this network is made of Memphis-area congregations that partner to bring better health to area communities, particularly for vulnerable populations.
